4-June-1997	Fourth Indian Remote Sensing Satellite (IRS-1D), carring advanced remote sensing cameras launched by India's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-1D), in service.
4-June-1997	Indian National Satellite (INSAT-2D), fourth satellite in INSAT-2 series, launched. This has additional capabilities such as mobile satellite service, business communication and television outreach beyond Indian boundaries. This became inoperable due to power bus anamoly since Oct. 4, 1997. It was launched by European launch vehicle, Ariane from Kourov in French Guyana.
