June 27 marks National HIV Testing Day.
The number of people in America living with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, is at an estimated 1.2 million, and it's growing by roughly 50,000 each year, according to the Center for Disease Control.
But that doesn't have to be the case. The CDC found that more than 90 percent of new HIV infections in the United States could have been prevented by testing and by ensuring people who are positive receive prompt care.
The CDC recommends people between the ages of 13 and 64 get tested at least once in their lives, though people who are having unprotected sex and who inject drugs should be tested more often.

It's a disease that doesn't care if you're gay or straight, black or white, or even famous or a regular Joe. That's something the celebrities in the gallery above know all too well.
Take a look at the slideshow to see which famous people have been affected by HIV or AIDS.
